Air Day
Purpose and Objectives of Air Day
Air is a shared asset for all of humanity, and every person across the globe has the right to breathe clean air. However, due to industrial development and the growing indifference to air pollution, the fundamental right to breathe clean air—essential for human life—is being violated. Air Day has been established In order to promote this basic right.
An individual breathes 20,000 to 30,000 times a day, inhaling approximately 20,000 liters of air. If a person cannot breathe for just a few minutes, it can be fatal, and no living organism on Earth can survive for even a few minutes without air.
As industrial development, population growth, and improved economic standards have led to increased emissions of various pollutants from cars, factories, and buildings, air pollution has become a growing issue. This pollution causes a range of respiratory diseases and negatively impacts human health.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the most significant route through which environmental pollutants enter the human body is via the respiratory system, having the greatest impact on human health compared to other exposure pathways. Considering the significant impact of air on human health, preventing air pollution and purifying polluted air are crucial tasks that must be addressed first and foremost for the improvement of modern human health and quality of life.
As air is invisible, the pollution of air is also invisible to our eyes, leading modern humans to overlook its importance and fail to recognize the severity of air pollution. In order to improve human health and quality of life, it is essential to remind everyone of the importance of air, work together to prevent further air pollution, and actively purify polluted air.
"Air is an essential and irreplaceable
element for human life."
Air pollution not only includes outdoor air pollution but has also transformed into a significant concern within various indoor spaces—such as office buildings, homes, transportation, hospitals, and underground areas—that make up the living environment of modern city dwellers. In fact, modern people are in constant contact with indoor air more than any other medium. Therefore, while people recognize the importance of air in both outdoor and indoor environments for health and quality of life, the invisible nature of air makes it difficult to directly assess pollution or its impact on health. As a result, many forget the significance of air pollution in their daily lives.
At this point, it is necessary to establish Air Day to constantly remind people of the importance of air, both indoors and outdoors, and to encourage continuous efforts to improve air quality for better health and life quality. Through the past five years of Air Day events, raising public awareness about the importance of air has led individuals to take actions towards air purification, thus improving their health and quality of life. Additionally, it has paved the way to explore the establishment of World Air Day to globally promote health and well-being, allowing humanity to enjoy a comfortable and healthy life.
Expected Effects of Air Day
· Build public consensus on the close relationship between air quality, health, and quality of life, which will contribute to the protection of public health and environmental health promotion.
· Create jobs through the development of technologies for continuous improvement of indoor and outdoor air quality, and the activation of related industries.
· Enhance the country’s public perception as a leading nation in environmental policy and clean air maintenance, improving international trust and boosting its image as a developed country.
· Strengthen global competitiveness through the expansion of the air purification industry, creating high value-added outcomes, and enhancing international competitiveness.
